Description:
Rusty is a handsome, short-haired, rust-brown and black beagle/hound who is currently in a home with a family who adopted him about 4 months ago. He originally came up from Kentucky where he was picked up as a stray and we think he is about 2 years old. He weighs 35 lbs and is in very good health, up to date shots, neutered etc. He has been seen by the veterinarian Rusty is a joy to have around; he is playful, smart and eager to please. He loves his treats and is very food motivated. He knows how to sit, give a paw, and lie down. We enrolled Rusty is some basic obedience classes and he is a quick learner. He is a fast runner and loves his walks where he can track and sniff to his heart's content he definitely needs exercise every day but loves to find a sunny spot and nap after a long walk. He loves bones and toys and playing with other dogs in a fenced in off leash park; he particularly enjoys goading his dog friends into games of chase. He is completely house trained and very well- behaved in the house; he never chews or destroys anything. We have taught him not to climb on furniture. He never begs from the dinner table and does not counter surf. He is not a barker or noisy in other ways. He is comfortable in a crate, and also sleeps in his own dog bed every night. He only wakes up in the morning when the rest of the family wakes up. We love Rusty but having had him with us a while, it is clear he would be better suited to a home without young children, and we have two of them. Rusty has a tendency to guard his toys and other items from kids, and will occasionally growl if a child approaches him unexpectedly. Rusty is a very good-natured, happy-go-lucky dog; he just needs a home where there are adults who can love him and give him structure, without the distraction of youngsters who tend to make him uncomfortable. Rusty deserves a great home; we are hoping to help him find one! If you are interested in Rusty please go through Speaking of Dogs Rescue. We are helping the family rehome Rusty to a more suitable, appropriate home where he will not feel he has to resource guard (he does not guard with adults). We also have a very respectable trainer we know and trust do an evaluation on Rusty, that information can be shared with potential adopters.
